Bob Rosinsky

(January) Modest and Magnificent

Purchasing info: Please reach out to Bob directly at bob@bobrosinsky.com or www.bobrosinsky.com

In Bob’s words: I picked up my first camera at age seven, my father’s simple Ansco Cadet. My interest in photography flourished throughout my adolescence. My post-secondary education started at the University of Missouri, known for its journalism school. My intention was to major in photojournalism. One day, I summoned up the nerve to show the chairman of the department my portfolio. He brusquely commented that my photographs had a fine art bent and that art school would be a better fit. The following year, I transferred to the Minneapolis College of Art and Design. Ironically, my art school curriculum gravitated towards filmmaking and creating sculptures that explored visual phenomena and perception. That work catalyzed my interest in the burgeoning art and technology genre.

My fascination with visual perception carried over to my studies at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). There I learned about the subject on a deeper level. I also learned, while participating in a class experiment, that I have monocular vision—an inability to perceive three-dimensional space. It’s no surprise I gravitated towards photography at an early age—I see the world much the same way a photograph appears. After earning my degree, I continued working at MIT as a research fellow and experimented with making virtual artwork, images that were only visible as fleeting afterimages. Later, I entered the field of special effects and 3-D animation. I eventually became disenchanted with the work and returned to still photography.

Paula Fitzgerald

(May) At The Faucet

Purchasing info: Framed $400, unframed $350. Please reach out to Paula directly at fitzpaula@gmail.com

In Paula’s words: After a career in landscape architecture where I specialized in outdoor recreational spaces, I have discovered the joy of art. I began oil painting with realist master painter, Rey Ford in 2013 and have continued his classes. Expanding my ability to SEE, appreciate, and execute art is my on-going goal.

Play is an essential and often overlooked part of a balanced life. Exploring various mediums and styles is an exciting journey and fulfills my need for creative play. Color and light are the most compelling facets of art exploration for me. An on-going challenge is to choose a focus and find innovative ways to lead the viewer’s eye through the painting to that center. I am inspired by the many works of fellow artists and masters who continue to amaze me.

Coy Ink | Amanda Maldonado

(June) Sunny Days at the Callahan House

Purchasing info: $650 for 16x20 original, $45 for 11x14 print. Please follow this link to purchase.

In Amanda’s words: I’m an artist, designer, and illustrator. I started Coy Ink in 2018 while I was still daylighting as art director for Simply Organic. Now I pursue art and community full time (as of fall 2021) through classes, private lessons, community events, commissions, markets and more.

I’ve been an artist ever since I can remember. I’ve always loved creating and sharing my perspective of the world with friends and family. I started doing plein air in 2019 and quickly fell in love. I can’t imagine going back to working off of digital images anytime soon. In 2021, I participated in the Central City Plein Air festival and I have continued to participate ever since.

I’m most inspired by my community, nature, and historical buildings. I take every opportunity to get out and sketch or paint whenever I leave the house, travel, or go out with friends. My passion is my community and my drive is making art accessible to everyone. I love planning events in Longmont and encouraging aspiring artists and creatives to do what they love. In case you need to hear this – yes you can be an artist! All you gotta do is want it badly enough to ignore the voice in your head that says you’re no good at this!

Jessica Marshall

(July) The Bluest Sky #1

Purchasing info: Please follow this link to purchase.

Jessica and her family have made Old Town West Longmont home since 2000. Keenly attuned to the fortune of living as a part of this landscape, Jessica has had the pleasure of watching Longmont grow into a thriving creative community, and balances capturing the natural beauty with the direct conflict that growth presents to it.

“Living along the Colorado Front Range for nearly three decades has made a profound impact on my ability to hold and maintain wonder, curiosity, and appreciation for our natural surroundings. Every morning is a possibility for a perfectly pink alpen glow sunrise, every fire a deeply painful mourning for what became ash. There is an opportunity to pause with amazement literally around every bend. If you aren’t in awe of the intricate interplays of color and shape, sun and rain that are the essence of Colorado then come sit next to me for a while and let’s talk about rocks. I began painting again in earnest in 2021 as a way of healing from the loss of a fire, and so much more. Painting shows me how to appreciate, and what to let go of. It can be a peaceful meditation or an invigorating, energetic frenzy of fun. My goal is to hold a moment, a color, a feeling, a place, suspended for a moment so that you and I can share a conversation about how awesome it is that we get to be amongst these wonders.”

Wira Babiak

(September) Longs Peak

Purchasing info: This piece is available for $250. Please reach out to Wira directly at babiak@colorado.edu

In Wira’s words: I began making art from the age of 14. I work with many mediums such as watercolors, acrylics, oils, graphite digital photography, the painting and designing of Ukrainian Easter eggs to name a few. I make art because it makes me think about imagination and I enjoy seeing how that imagination turns out whether it be on paper, wood, plastic, whatever the surface may be, good or bad. Even though I have formal art instruction, I’m always learning and attending workshops and classes. I particularly enjoy painting and photographing open spaces of land such as the plains and prairies. This is my documentation for many of the landscapes that are disappearing to housing developments and industrialization. I especially enjoy plein air painting with oils and being one with nature be it an hour or more several times a month. I have been a member of the Longmont Artists’ Guild for over 10 years.

Robyn Leigh Wicks

(October) Sandstone Sunset

Purchasing info: This piece is available for $889. Please reach out to Robyn directly at robynwicks.com

Robyn Leigh Wicks is a Colorado-based expressionist painter whose work explores our emotional and subjective experience of the natural world. Her current collections focus on abstract floral and pure abstraction pieces.

Robyn’s enthusiasm for expressionism stems from the style’s invitation to bring intuition, emotion, and subjectivity to bear on a subject matter. Robyn is a devout colorist and a true believer in the power of color and beauty to birth joy and positively transform both our outer spaces and inner worlds. Influences on her vibrant and bold floral work are Henri Matisse and the Scottish Colorists. The oft-overlooked female artists and geniuses of the Abstract Expressionism movement—such as Helen Frankenthaler, Lee Krasner, and Joan Mitchell—inspire and impact her pure abstraction pieces. All her work reflects the influence of the expansive, exploratory, and evolving geography and spirit of the Mountain West, where she has spent most of her life.

For Robyn, art is more than a creative passion or mastered technique. It is a prayer of possibility, a declaration of hope, and a reaching within and beyond for authenticity, faith, and Mystery. For Robyn, art is also both a star and a sword when darkness falls. It is a form of resistance and a means of survival. When not making art, Robyn is lost on a mountain trail or in the soul-saving company of animals, trees, starry skies, or laughter. Robyn hopes that whether you are simply passing by her work or opting to bring a piece home that the work brings you joy and a respite—even if only momentary—from the heaviness of the world.

Amanda Gallant

Amanda Gallant is a sign painter, illustrator, and sewist. Her preferred tools for creating are her tablet, a 1950s Singer 201 sewing machine, and a pocket-sized watercolor kit she brings on all of her adventures. Nature and whimsy are her favorite subjects, and her Colorado home has proven to be a great source of inspiration. She somehow found herself living along the Front Range a few years back, exchanging the urban landscape of Philadelphia with the looming presence of the Rockies on the horizon. In Julie’s words: I have been drawing, painting, and doing all kinds of other creative things since I was a young child. In first grade I won a contest with my crayon drawing of singing bluebirds flying through a cheerful orangey sky. While I don’t do art with crayons any longer, I create pieces from just about any medium you can think of from traditional paints to recycled items to textiles and paper. Many of my pieces are inspired by my other hobbies and interests - animals, old architecture, nature, and various sports.

I am always thrilled when a friend or family member requests something! I love the challenge of finding the right colors, the desired expression, the perfect collection of materials, or sometimes even a hidden something special that I hope they will find in time. I am located in beautiful Longmont, Colorado.
